Tres Rios, Costa Rica: Breathtaking & Raw
Whereas Ojochal is the more cultured get-away-from-it all town, Tres Rios Costa Rica really is away from everything. It is literally the town where three rivers come together, thus the name, “Tres Rios”.
Some people love this remoteness. I do, as it reminds me of growing up in Arkansas 40+ years ago: long dirt roads dotted with small houses climbing up to big houses, and still to this day, there are more locals in Tres Rios than expats. As a result, Tres Rios Costa Rica is more affordable, when you buy raw land, but it’s also a longer drive.
South Pacific Costa Rica Real Estate has more of these direct “local” relationships than any other broker in the area, so if this is up your alley, let’s chat. If we don’t have something in our portfolio, we can likely find it for you.
Residential Real Estate in Tres Rios, Costa Rica
In 2017, a number of large to immense homes have been built up in the hills along the ridges above Tres Rios, but there are few – if any – inexpensive homes less than $250k USD that would be in line with what many budget-minded expats might be seeking. This could be a great opportunity for the right developer who wanted to build smaller home types or communities for this type of audience.
Tres Rios, Costa Rica – because it is less developed and more remote – has zero amenities. No gas station, no grocery, no hair salon, no anything except for a tiny public school. The town does require 4 x 4 transportation, which some of the other towns along the Ballena Coast do not. But it’s rawness is breathtaking in some areas. The abundance of fresh water is stunning. This is natural Costa Rica – within a 10-20 short drive to amenities depending on what you seek – at its best.
But, that said, Tres Rios, Costa Rica is NOT for everyone. Only true adventurers need look in this area. We can show you the best that’s available, and everything in between. I imagine in the next five to ten years this tiny burg will look very different, as a result.
